Song Lyrics

During the after-dinner program following the Staff dinner on Monday, August 1, 2005, the Medical Team performed several songs for our enjoyment. By popular request, those lyrics, written by Dr. Dwight Rosenstein, are reprinted here.

Yesterday (at the Jamboree)

Yesterday, all the Scouts they seemed so far away,
Now it looks as if they're here to stay.
Oh I can't believe in what went down today.

Suddenly, tractor-trailers are surrounding me,
A Puerto Rican bus rolled over me.
Oh gee today came suddenly.

Why they had to come I don't know, they wouldn't say.
But now that it's begun there'll be no more rest today.

Yesterday, I'm not half the Scouter I thought I was,
My cerebral cortex has turned into fuzz,
Oh Scouting is as Scouting does.

(We All Live In) Subcamp 3

In the tents in which we live
You can hear sounds galore
But the loudest there by far
Are the ones from those that snore

Chorus
We all live in Subcamp 3, Subcamp 3, Subcamp 3 (x2)

And the Scouters who are here
Can't believe that it's so hot;
And they said it's as we feared
So it's time for us to leave - not!

Chorus:

And the director and the chief
Don't seem to get no relief
Critics in front, complainers behind 'em,
But let's see if you can find 'em.

Chorus (Repeat and fade)

Jambo

I've got jock itch, and a blister, it's true,
And it's hot outside, So I'm dehydrated, too.
Well I guess you'd say, what could make me feel this way-
Jambo, Jambo, Jambo; talking 'bout Jambo.

I'm in a hurry, just to wait in line.
But the programs here, they are so fine.
Well, I guess you'd say, what could make me feel this way-
Jambo, Jambo Jambo; talking 'bout Jambo.

I don't need no bandages, I don't need no pills.
No matter how much I get sick - I don't feel ill.
Well, I guess you'd say, what could make me feel this way-
Jambo, Jambo Jambo; talking 'bout Jambo.

Breaking Camp Is Hard To Do

Came in last week, it was so hot,
Pools of sweat soaked up my cot,
But it's time, Jambo is through,
Breaking camp is hard to do.

The commissary, they are so cool,
The kitchen staff, they are no fools,
The food was great, but now it's through,
Breaking camp is hard to do.

They say that breaking camp is hard to do,
Now I know, I know that it's true.
But they said we had to be gone.
Instead of taking it away we wish so much that we could stay.

The maintenance crew, they know where it's at,
They've got Bob, the coolest cat,
They can fix it with duct tape or screws,
Breaking camp is hard to do.

The Chaplain group, they are not lemons,
They made this camp, a piece of heaven,
And you know, they'll pray for you.
Breaking camp is hard to do.

They say that breaking camp is hard to do,
Now I know, I know that it's true.
But they said we had to be gone.
Instead of taking it away we wish so much that we could stay.

Our great youth staff, they aim to please,
They run around to take care of our needs,
And occasionally they act grown up, too,
Breaking camp is hard to do.

Our morale's so good, it's almost illegal,
We proudly post our daily Eagle,
We'll miss Vic, John, and Steve and Linda, too.
Breaking camp is hard to do.
